Mathematics 5 SN
Objectives: to build upon prior mathematical skills; to practice mental math skills; to strengthen problem solving without dependence on a calculator; to express answers in exact measures; to consolidate process building strategies; to solve higher order problems; to learn essential pre-calculus skills (specifically logarithms and trigonometry) and pre-linear algebra skills (specifically vectors)
Materials: pencils, erasers, non-graphing scientific calculator, ruler, agenda, graph paper, notebook, binder
Memory Aid: to be constructed and edited as an evolving document as the year progresses and which can be used on each test, midterm and final exam
Competencies: C2 - uses mathematical reasoning 70% (tests, assignments, homework, midyear and final exams)
C1 - solves a situational problem 30% (RUBRIC)
Topics, Approximate Pacing & Approximate Test Dates:
Term 1: Algebra Review; Properties and Operations SEPT 12; Absolute Value SEPT 21/22; Square Root OCT 5/6; Greatest Integer, Quadratic, Piece-wise OCT 20/21; Rational NOV 3/4 (SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER/NOVEMBER)
